Theater Chain Won’t Play Lionsgate Film

To movieogers on the coasts, the Marcus Theatres chain isn’t a household name. But people in flyover country go to the more than 50 first-run theatre locations in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. So Midwest audiences won’t see Lionsgate’s One For The Money in a Marcus Theatre because the theater chain and the studio couldn’t come to financial terms. It’s always about the money — in this case, I hear the chain objected to Lionsgate’s deal with Groupon this weekend for discounted movie tickets to One For The Money. It may not matter.
